Brachycephalic Breeds Characteristics

Brachycephalic breeds (Brachy) are dog & cat breeds with short and flat faces. 

There are different degrees of brachycephaly, with some breeds being more extreme than others.

Some of the brachycephalic dog breeds include:

  • Pugs
  • French bulldogs
  • English bulldogs
  • Boston terriers
  • Boxers

Some of the brachycephalic cat breeds include:

  • Persians
  • Himalayans
  • Exotic Shorthairs
  • Burmese

Brachycephalic dogs and cats have an exaggerated short and wide skull, and their bottom jaw is disproportionately longer than their upper jaw giving them a ‘Flat face look’.
